RE: Dogs ... Dogs ... Dogs!!!

Believe it or not there are RV'ers who do not own a Dog or Dogs (seems like the "in thing" is to have more than one)!! Anyway .... dog owners should be MORE courteous. Like: don't let the dog pee on picnic bench legs or on a patch of grass just outside the door, someone is watching if you don't pick up the poo, be aware if your dog is a "barker" when you leave it in the coach for a couple of hours, tethered to a post but barks as you walk by is not cute, talking to your dog during a 7:00 am walk is not amusing to someone who is still in bed, a 30 pounder may be cute & passive to you but aggressive to others. Thanks very much for listening. And this has what to do with class A motorhomes? Sounds like a lot of whine to me?

RE: When's the right time to check the engine oil level?

Do I check it cold (before starting it in the morning, warm or do I need to wait approx 1 hour after a trip to ensure the oil drains into the engine oil pan. The reason for asking is that I just turned 6000 mile on my 2007 National Tropi-Cal LX T370 with a CAT C7 and I had it's last oil change at 4500 miles which was done about 6 months ago. I checked the oil 15 minute after the end of our last trip and it showed that I was down 2 quarts. I rechecked the engine oil 1 hour after shutting the engine down and it did improve a little bit. I just checked it again (which is the next day) and I noticed not improvement. I did crawl under my RV and I did not notice any leaks and I'm not blowing any white smoke or blowing any large amount out the rear blow tube. Is that usage normal? Can I add the needed oil without warming up the oil? Any help I can get would be great. Thanks Rod 2007 National Tropi-Cal LX T370 When TRAVELING...I check mine nightly as I go back and lock the toad up..etc. If the engine is cool enough you can lay your hand on the exhaust manifold...its cool enough to check the oil.

RE: Rodents in storage yard

I store my MH in WI near an open field/woods and railroad track. I have seen ground hogs around the MH. Has anyone had damage from ground hogs or other large rodants? AeroP Once they decide they like the "flavor" of ( ???)...they can ( as all rodents can) chew your coach to the ground. Anything rubber they seem to like??...but again they may not care for it. Best use some protection as compared to having to replace $$$ items

RE: Balancing rear tires?

Take a look at Centramatic based in Ft. Worth, TX. They are a dynamic balancer and once installed at NO cost you'll never have to balance again. At NO COST? I guess they are FREE then...huh?

RE: Question on portable hard drive?

I do a lot of videos, and was thinking of getting a portable hard drive, for my laptop. I am interested in any information, like size, brand, and opinions in general. Thanks in advance for any help given. I use a Western Digital 80 gig with my laptop and have used nothing but WD drives since the early 90's....never had a problem. Im thinking about getting the 500 meg to plug into the back of my new Dell desktop ( has a 520 HD in it presently) to use for backups and storage. The 500 meg costs right at $120 now...their terabite model is about $195

RE: TIRES..

Both are a decent tire. Verify the dates before you have them mounted.. I can see going to a larger diameter to bet a better mileage but why narrower??? Also you will need to get you speedo calibrated or use a GPS for your speed and mileage in the future HUH? You think going from a 255-80 to a 275-70 is a NARROWER tire??:S

RE: Black Tank is Plugged...Suggestions Please

How do you know its not the knife valve itself thats damaged and not a tank 1/2 full of solids?? When was the last time you lubricated ( if EVER) the knife valve itself?

RE: 1st timer with Long trip planned

I bought a used 1993 Southwind by Fleetwood. I tuned it up, what a pain to. New brakes on rear and it seems to run just fine and all seems to work 'cept not sure if its charging the on board 6-volts yet. Anyways, I'm contemplating a trip from Anchorage, Ak to about 50 miles sw of Atlanta. 4,400+ miles. Also, considering towing 1990 Jeep Cherokee. Never done that tho. Maybe flying wld be better 'cept I'd have to ship the dogs and guns and other stuff as I plan to stay all winter. Any thoughts or should I just fly. I haven't used the RV yet on the road at all but plan to ard the middle of the month. Thanks I owned a 33ft...1993 Southwind...drove it till 2001 when I bought my present rig. I didnt eveything to mind..Banks kit..you name it and I never thought it had enough power to pull a hat off my head..let alone pull a toad!!!:E I wouldnt have any problem driving the COACH on that trip...but I wouldnt pull out of the driveway with that Jeep attached

RE: WARNING light comes on

The MH is HR w/ISC 330 on a roadmaster semi-monocoque series 8 bag chassis and allison MD 3060-3560. All gauges were normal - coolant temp, oil pressure, tranny temp, turbo boost, air pressure. I was not pulling the toad behind (wife was driving it behind me). I agree, something related to fuel or air or a mixture thereof was starving. I installed new fuel filters six months ago and haven't driven much. I will check on it again. Assuming that you have the proper AMOUNT of coolant..?? try running in a lower gear at 2100 RPM. 1700 RPM is my highway cruising RPM's

RE: Battery Problems - Looking for Solutions (a little long)

Insufficient power in your battery bank. The reason I run FOUR 6 volt golf cart batteries.

RE: Torque Setting Of Lugs on a Class A DP??

The P30 with 19.5 wheels is 175 foot pounds for what it is worth. I agree with Fred's 150 pound suggestion will keep the wheels from falling off any time soon. :) Depends on the wheels! BOTH of my P30 were 115-135 lbs of torque

RE: How big does the stick have to be.

I checked out the site for Kangen water and saw the reference to diabetes. Anyone tried this out? Where does it get its source of water? How does it change tap water into akaline water? Since I have diabetes I might be interested but its hard to believe that something as simple as water can help control blood glucose. sounds like a medical scam to me. takes the chlorine out as will a cheap charcoal filter. I wasn't aware that chlorine gave me diabetes, especially since the last 31 years I have been drinking from a non chlorinated well. :p bumpy A real snake oil product!!...:h I wouldnt spend 50 cents to even try it...total "BS"!

RE: The Future of Motor Homes

The companys that build ( presently) larger, highline coaches will continue. They dont produce enough coaches that they cant be sold But there will be a LOT of "also ran's" that will drop by the wayside

RE: Gas Tank Alarm

Some theives are punching a hole in the exposed underbody of the fuel tank and draining the fuel by gravity. They do not attract attention with a hose hanging out the filler area. Now we need a pressure sensing device inside the tank. Ive heard that but I wonder about it? Since the "gas tank" system is a CLOSED system ( tight screwed on cap even..or should be???) if one pokes a hold in the bottom of the tank....how does AIR get into the tank for the fuel to drain out? Take a 2 liter pop bottle and leave the cap ON..and poke a hole in the bottom and see how fast the Coke drains out...:h

RE: Need routing help please

I am wanting to find the safest routr from I-90 west to Cody, Wy. Has anyone travelled this way and have any suggestions ? I am scared silly f driving anything with "pass" in the name. Thank you in advance. grltaz The EASIEST route? Stay on I90 to just west of Billings Mt. Then at a small town named "Laurel"...head south on US310 till you intersect US-14 ALT and turn west right into Cody

RE: Gas Engine, Torque and Economy?

Hi Jerry, You might want to have your tachometer recalibrate. At 65 MPH you should be turning about 2500 RPM. Do the math. 5.13 rear end gear, 32" diameter tires, .71 OD ratio. Or if you have a 5.38 gear, then you should be turning about 2600 RPM. You might have to slow down a bit to drive at your 2200 RPM torque peak. 16" IS NOT the "rolling radius" of a 32" tall tire!!!

RE: Brake pads/rotor resurface.

With a MH using jake brake 50% of the time, what would be a reasonable amount of mileage before having to do this. Just bought a cat powered 33ft beaver with 57,000 miles and the front brakes need to be replaced and rotors resurfaced. Disc brakes with ABS. Someone wasnt using their brake properly or maybe at all? ( exhaust brake) I was worried abhout replacement when I first bought my coach and asked my "wrench". He told me that if I have to have them replaced at 80,000...I wasnt doing something right. 100K min and even as long as 125K

RE: basement storage locks "froze up"

I just bought a 96 Winnebago Vectra. The keys they gave me will go into the lock but won't turn them. I have almost 50 keys given to me by the dealer. He said just spray with wd40 and they will work. of course that didn't, any suggestions on loosen them up. or better yet a way to get in the storage and maybe changing them out for new ones. i assume camping world carries them and maybe only have one key for all of them. all of the doors are unlocked except one. and this one, the dealer could not get it open. so I'm hoping there might be a bunch of gold bricks in it. thanks for the help. The locks themselves will have a 2 or 3 digit number printed on the face. If you dont have a key with the same number(s)...you could have 500 keys that will "fit" but wont unlock them! Once you get them unlocked...toss the WD40 in the trash and use a LIGHT spray OIL ( with a soda straw applicator) inside the locks.
